Auburn High School Star Chooses to Stay Close to Home

Omar Mabson, a talented running back from Auburn (Ala.) High School, has decided to keep his roots firmly planted at home.

The 5-foot-9, 200-pound powerhouse just committed to the Auburn Tigers, becoming a late but exciting addition to Hugh Freeze’s 2025 recruiting class.

Mabson’s stats are pretty impressive. According to On300, he’s ranked as the No. 56 running back and the No. 27 player in Alabama. Overall, he sits at No. 1,238, and he’s No. 95 among running backs when you average out rankings from all the big recruiting sites.

So, how did this come about? Mabson reclassified to join the 2025 cycle, catching Auburn’s eye later in the game. He got an official visit scheduled in January after both Freeze and offensive coordinator Derrick Nix dropped by for a chat.

“Coach Nix is my dog. He’s real cool and shows real love. And Coach Freeze, having him in the house, the top general, it’s always cool to have him in the house,” Mabson told Auburn Live.

In 2024, Mabson racked up some mind-blowing numbers: 1,515 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns on 184 carries. His team wrapped up the season with a solid 10-1 record, ranking as the No. 49 team nationally and No. 2 in Alabama, according to the On3 Composite.

Joining Auburn’s 2025 class, Mabson strengthens a lineup that’s already ranked No. 6 in the nation by the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. He’s the second running back in the class, joining forces with Elba (Ala.)’s record-breaking four-star Alvin Henderson.

With such a strong start, it’s going to be exciting to see what Mabson and his new teammates achieve in the coming years. Could they climb even higher in the rankings? Only time will tell!
