Cam Thomas Chooses Illinois for College Football

Cam Thomas, a talented linebacker from West Chester, Ohio, has decided to take his skills to Illinois. After considering several top schools, including Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Oregon, and West Virginia, the Illini came out on top for him.

Why did he choose Illinois? Well, Cam shared with On3, “It has a lot of things that I like. They are a great school in Business and Finance,” which is exactly the field he’s interested in. Plus, he loves the campus vibe. “It’s beautiful,” he said. He feels at ease with the coaches, and it’s a place where he can see himself getting some serious playing time.

Getting on the field quickly is a big deal for Cam. Standing tall at 6-foot-2 and weighing 217 pounds, he’s eager to jump into action. And there’s a bonus: he might get to play alongside a familiar face.

Grant Beerman signed with Illinois, and it was really when he committed to them that I started looking harder at Illinois,” Cam explained. “It would be cool to play beside him again.”

Illinois ended their 2024 season with a strong 10-3 record, capping it off with a win over South Carolina in the Citrus Bowl. For Cam, joining such a successful team is pretty exciting.

He’s also thrilled about working with coach Bret Bielema, affectionately known as Coach B. “The first thing is, I know coach B is going to be there,” Cam noted. “He is not going anywhere and they are doing a great job.”

Coach B has a history of developing standout players, like Dre Greenlaw. Cam’s had some great conversations about his own development with the coach and feels a strong connection with coach (Archie) McDaniel too.

“They’ve recruited me for a long time,” Cam added. When Grant committed, they really stepped up their game. For Cam, Illinois is just the right fit.

As he looks forward to this next chapter, it’ll be interesting to see how Cam makes his mark on the field. Will he become a key player for Illinois? Time will tell!
