Wonderful “Champ” Monds announced his commitment to Notre Dame on The Pat McAfee Show Friday. The quarterback will head to South Bend to play for Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish.
Monds is ranked as the 20th quarterback in the country. He’s the second-ranked quarterback in Florida behind Davin Davidson, who committed to the Gators.
The Vero Beach product earned the starting job at Vero Beach High School as a freshman. In his first year as starter in 2024, he led his team to an 8-4 record. He threw for 2,234 yards and 23 touchdowns while adding 502 rushing yards and nine rushing scores.
He suffered an ankle injury in the 2025 season opener and didn’t return until the state playoffs.
In four total games played that season, he threw for 691 yards and seven touchdowns. Monds reclassified from the 2028 to the 2027 class and is preparing for his final high school season in 2026.

Where the rest of the 2027 QB class stands
With Monds now off the board, just two uncommitted top-25 quarterbacks remain in the 2027 cycle. They are the seventh-ranked quarterback Peter Bourque and 14th-ranked Colton Nussmeier, the younger brother of former LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.
Bourque is the top quarterback prospect in Massachusetts. He originally committed to Michigan but decommitted in February. Since then, he’s been linked to Penn State, Virginia Tech, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.
On3 recently logged a prediction for Penn State.

The younger Nussmeier is ranked as the sixth quarterback prospect in Texas. He holds 21 total offers, including LSU. According to On3/Rivals, there’s a 97.2% expert prediction for him to follow in his brother’s footsteps in Baton Rouge.
