Rising Star Paris Melvin Jr. Narrows Down College Choices
Houston Cy Springs’ own Paris Melvin Jr. is making waves in high school football. This talented athlete, known for his impressive skills on both offense and defense, is catching the eye of major college programs as he heads into his senior year.
Over 20 top-tier schools have shown interest in this 6-foot, 170-pound powerhouse. But on Friday, Melvin took a big step forward by narrowing his choices down to just ten schools.
His top picks? Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Florida, Florida State, Houston, Michigan, SMU, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M are still in the running for Melvin’s commitment.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, which averages ratings from all the major recruiting sites, Melvin ranks as the No. 302 overall prospect and the No. 23 athlete for the class of 2026. He’s also the 42nd best player in Texas, which is pretty impressive!
Last season, Melvin was a real game-changer for Cy Springs. He carried the ball 147 times, racking up 1,091 yards and scoring 18 touchdowns. Not stopping there, he caught over 350 yards worth of passes and even threw a touchdown pass himself. On defense, he added 13 tackles, snagged an interception, and deflected four passes, according to MaxPreps.
Cy Springs had a solid year in 2024, winning six games in the competitive 6A Division II and landing as the No. 172 team in Texas, based on the On3 Composite rankings.
Melvin’s recruitment journey has been relatively quiet when it comes to visits. However, he did check out Florida and Oklahoma last year, and the Gators left quite an impression.
“I love the coaching staff. The real conversations they have with you and work required to be great every day (stands out),” Melvin told Gators Online. “The facilities look good and all, but I love the hard-hat mentality the coaches thrive to have with the players at Florida.”
