It looks like we’re in for an exciting showdown in the Big 12 for Oscar Rios, a standout four-star quarterback from Downey, California. He’s one of the top QBs in the 2026 class and was previously committed to Purdue.

Arizona is making a play for the 6-foot-3, 170-pounder. Rios has announced he’s visiting Tucson on June 13.

The Wildcats are actually the fourth school to get a visit from this blue-chip recruit. He’s scheduled to check out Oklahoma State on April 25, then it’s off to Utah on June 6, and finally Colorado on June 20.

Rios ranks as the No. 191 overall prospect and the No. 15 QB in his class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. This ranking is a mash-up of all the big recruiting services. In California, he’s the No. 22 player.

Last year, as a sophomore, he threw for 2,633 yards and 23 touchdowns. He also ran for 767 yards and scored seven more times. His junior year stats were pretty similar—2,554 passing yards, 22 passing touchdowns, 735 rushing yards, and 11 rushing touchdowns.

Rios led Downey High to a solid 9-2 record, but they got knocked out by Gardena Junipero Serra in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs.

More on Arizona Recruiting

Brent Brennan and his team at Arizona have already snagged three commitments for their 2026 recruiting class. They’ve got Chandler, Arizona’s three-star safety Hamisi Juma, San Francisco Archbishop Riordan’s three-star interior offensive lineman Michael Langi, and Santa Ana, California’s linebacker Dash Fifita from Santa Margarita Catholic.

In the last cycle, Arizona signed the No. 47 class nationwide, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. They brought in 28 high school prospects.

Leading the pack of new recruits is Orlando Boone’s four-star wide receiver Isaiah Mizell. He’s ranked as the No. 250 recruit and No. 35 WR in the cycle. Interestingly, On3 rates him much higher than other recruiting sites, putting him at No. 104 in the On300.

Other notable signees include Danville, California’s Monte Vista three-star tight end Kellan Ford, Chandler, Arizona’s Basha three-star WR Gio Richardson, Fort Worth, Texas’ North Crowley three-star running back Cornelius Warren, Dallas Parish Episcopal’s three-star QB Sawyer Anderson, Crosby, Texas’ three-star RB Wesley Yarbrough, and Scottsdale, Arizona’s Saguaro three-star athlete Dajon Hinton.

With all these promising players, Arizona’s future on the field looks pretty bright. Who knows what surprises next season might bring?
