Michigan is making moves to get a talented young defensive player from Texas up to Ann Arbor for an official visit this summer.
The Wolverine’s EJ Holland shared some exciting news on Saturday: Chace Calicut, a four-star safety from Houston North Shore, is planning to visit the Wolverines on June 20.
Why is this a big deal? Well, Michigan is trying hard to beat out strong local teams like Texas and Texas A&M, both of which are also keen on him. But there’s hope! Last month, when talking to On3’s Chad Simmons, Calicut mentioned that Michigan has caught his eye.
“I really like Michigan’s mentality and the type of program they run. Michigan puts guys into the NFL too,” Calicut said.
Chace Calicut is ranked as the No. 217 overall prospect and No. 18 safety for the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which combines ratings from all major recruiting sites. He’s also the No. 26 player in Texas.
“I will go where it feels like home,” Calicut added. “It matters who the staff is, how they coach, and how I fit into the program.”
Michigan Signed an Impressive DB Class Last Cycle
While the signing of Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Bryce Underwood was the highlight of the 2025 recruiting cycle for head coach Sherrone Moore and his team, they also put together a pretty amazing group of defensive backs headed to Ann Arbor.
Five standout defensive backs signed with Michigan last December. These include Montgomery Village (Md.) Gonzaga four-star safety Kainoa Winston, Detroit Belleville four-star cornerback Elijah Dotson, Chester (Va.) Thomas Dale four-star CB Shamari Earls, Monroe (N.C.) four-star safety Jordan Young, and Kilgore (Texas) four-star CB Jayden Sanders.
Winston, Dotson, and Earls are all top-100 prospects. Meanwhile, Young and Sanders are both top-200 signees. And looking ahead, Michigan’s 2026 class already boasts a blue-chip cornerback, Jacksonville Mandarin four-star CB Brody Jennings, who joined the mix on July 28.
Jennings is one of just two commits so far for U-M in the 2026 class, joining Southlake (Texas) Parish Episcopal three-star wide receiver Jaylen Pile.
So, Michigan fans, keep your eyes peeled for what could be an exciting summer visit from Calicut and maybe some more thrilling recruiting news down the line!
