Notre Dame will face more games against ACC powerhouses Florida State, Miami, and Clemson under a new television agreement between the ACC and ESPN, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger.

The Fighting Irish will play at least two of these three programs each season in a rotating schedule.

Notre Dame has maintained football independence for 118 years, with a brief exception during the 2020 COVID-19 season when they competed in the ACC. The program currently plays five ACC opponents in their 12-game regular season schedule.

The new agreement aims to create more high-profile matchups involving Notre Dame and the ACC’s top programs.

Recent history between these teams shows varied levels of competition:

Clemson has faced Notre Dame six times in the past decade, winning four of those contests.

Florida State has lost all four of their meetings with Notre Dame during the same period.

Miami split their two games with the Irish over the last 10 years, with their next scheduled matchup coming in 2025 – their first meeting since 2017.

The television contract extension could also help resolve ongoing legal disputes between the ACC and two of its members. Both Clemson and Florida State have filed lawsuits against the conference, raising questions about their future membership.

Notre Dame, coming off an appearance in the national championship game, will now regularly face the ACC’s elite programs in what promises to be compelling matchups for college football fans.

“[The agreement is] for Florida State, Miami, and Clemson to regularly play more football games vs. Notre Dame,” Dellenger reported.
