Alabama Expected to Start 5-Star QB in 2026 if Ty Simpson Declares for NFL Draft

Alabama Expected to Start 5-Star QB in 2026 if Ty Simpson Declares for NFL Draft image

Alabama entered this fall without a clear starting quarterback for the Crimson Tide.

Ty Simpson won the job and developed into a standout performer. Things worked out well.

Simpson may declare for the NFL Draft, where he’d likely be selected in the first round. He hasn’t officially announced his decision yet.

If he leaves, Alabama won’t need to search far for a replacement.

The Crimson Tide brought in freshman Keelon Russell this fall after he ranked among the top recruits nationally.

Russell is the clear next option if Simpson departs. Alabama shouldn’t need to pursue the quarterback transfer portal.

The Athletic’s Manny Navarro predicted Russell will win the starting job next fall in Tuscaloosa.

“Ty Simpson isn’t a lock yet to leave early for the NFL, but he’s certainly talented enough. Russell, a former five-star recruit, spent a season waiting in the wings.”

Next season carries significant importance for Alabama.

The Crimson Tide reached this season’s College Football Playoff despite three losses. They probably won’t want to cut it that close again.

Russell could help elevate head coach Kalen DeBoer, and vice versa. If they work well together, Alabama could return to the top of college football.
