Texas announced that quarterback Arch Manning remains confident despite the pressure that comes with playing for the Longhorns. The redshirt junior isn’t letting expectations affect his preparation for the 2026 season.
Manning addressed the scrutiny in an interview with On3’s Chris Low last week. He discussed both his family name and his role as Texas’s starting quarterback.
“I’m not going to shy away from anything. People are allowed to say whatever they want. It doesn’t really affect me. I know where I’m going and I know no one’s going to stop me. So that’s where I am with all that.”
The 21-year-old has been limited in spring practices after undergoing minor foot surgery in January.
Manning is feeling “100% right now,” according to ESPN. He’s expected to return for summer workouts.
Manning’s Breakout Season
In his first season as the full-time starter, Manning threw for 3,163 yards and 26 touchdowns. He added 399 rushing yards and 10 scores on the ground.
The Longhorns quarterback earned Citrus Bowl MVP honors after leading Texas to a 41-27 victory over Michigan on New Year’s Eve. Manning recorded 221 passing yards, 155 rushing yards, and four total touchdowns in that game.
His 60-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter sealed the win for Texas.

Portal Additions Bolster Offense
Texas added several key transfers for the 2026 season. Wide receiver Cam Coleman transferred from Auburn and is projected as a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
The Longhorns also landed two running backs through the transfer portal. Hollywood Smothers joined from N.C. State, while Raleek Brown transferred from Arizona State.
These additions complement an already talented group of returning players and a revamped offensive line.
The combination has Texas optimistic about returning to the College Football Playoff in 2026. The Longhorns made the playoff in Manning’s first season as starter but fell short of their championship goals.
