Arch Manning may be viewed as a potential top pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. But at least one voice believes the Texas quarterback won’t land with the New York Jets if they earn the No. 1 selection.
The Jets have emerged as betting favorites to finish with the league’s worst record next season following the first wave of NFL free agency. That’s secured them as frontrunners for the top pick in the 2027 draft.
The possibility has added speculation about New York selecting Manning, the nephew of former NFL stars Peyton and Eli Manning.
However, longtime New York radio host Mike Francesa said on his podcast this week that he doesn’t believe the Manning family would allow Arch to play for the Jets.
“I’m telling you right now, they will manipulate the draft. They will never let him get drafted by the Jets. You can take that to the bank.”
Francesa explained the Manning family’s history with the draft process.
In 2004, Eli Manning refused to play for the San Diego Chargers after they held the No. 1 overall pick. The Chargers selected Manning anyway before trading him to the New York Giants for quarterback Philip Rivers.
The Jets’ recent instability creates similar circumstances.
Team owner Woody Johnson has overseen years of organizational turnover. Questions remain about the team’s long-term direction despite changes at coach and quarterback.
They added Geno Smith for his second stint with the franchise this week.
While the 2027 draft remains far away, Francesa believes if the Jets hold the top pick, Manning may find a way to avoid them. Either staying at Texas or falling back in the draft, we’ll see what happens.
