East Tennessee State landed former Michigan and Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara, according to 247 Sports’ Chris Hummer.
McNamara’s move to the FCS program comes after Mark Gronowski’s transfer from South Dakota State to Iowa. The Buccaneers finished 7-5 last season.
The quarterback has thrown for 4,703 yards and 31 touchdowns across his FBS career.
McNamara’s 2023 season at Iowa ended with a 37.5 QBR, throwing six touchdowns and five interceptions. The Hawkeyes finished 8-5 despite offensive struggles that led to quarterbacks Brendan Sullivan and Jackson Stratton also seeing playing time.
Those numbers marked a significant drop from his 2021 season at Michigan, where he passed for 2,576 yards with 15 touchdowns and six interceptions.
“We couldn’t score in the red zone, and that’s what really hurt us,” McNamara said after Iowa’s loss to Iowa State. “I just think overall, our execution wasn’t there and I need to do better.”
McNamara joins East Tennessee State with one year of eligibility remaining.
