North Carolina coach Bill Belichick has been promoting his new book, The Art of Winning: Lessons from a Life in Football, while simultaneously managing public perception issues that emerged in recent weeks.
The controversy stems from a CBS interview that created significant media attention, particularly regarding how Belichick’s girlfriend and reported publicist, Jordon Hudson, conducted herself during the production process.
Belichick has addressed the situation at multiple venues, from ACC spring meetings to Good Morning America. His most recent comments came during an appearance on The Pivot podcast with Ryan Clark.
During the podcast, Belichick explained how Hudson’s involvement began.
“One of the first things that came out when North Carolina sent me emails saying, ‘These people want to talk to you…’ I sent back an email, ‘Can you please copy Jordon on these requests?’ so she could at least filter through them because there was nobody,” Belichick said.
“We didn’t have a sports information guy. Because all emails are shared publicly, that was taken as Jordon’s running the sports information department. And that also led to a narrative, which is just totally — she’s not doing it. I mean, there was nobody to help me sort it out, so I was asking her to do it.”
Hudson’s connection to the UNC football program has generated significant speculation.
Reporter Pablo Torre claimed Hudson was banned from UNC football facilities, but the university has denied this assertion. UNC officials clarified that Hudson is not employed by the program and holds no formal role.
On Good Morning America, Belichick defended Hudson, calling her “terrific” and explaining her actual responsibilities.
“She does the business things that don’t relate to North Carolina that come up in my life, so I can concentrate [on] football,” Belichick told Michael Strahan.
The podcast discussion traced how an early misunderstanding evolved into months of media coverage. Belichick has indicated he’s ready to redirect attention back to football matters.
