Texas Tech announced that quarterback Brendan Sorsby faces an ongoing NCAA eligibility case related to gambling allegations. The Cincinnati transfer’s legal team has requested an expedited resolution from the NCAA.
According to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger, Sorsby’s attorneys have notified the NCAA about an imminent legal challenge to any potential punishment.
“Attorneys representing Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby have notified the NCAA with a request for an expedited resolution to reinstate his eligibility over sports gambling allegations and informing the association that a legal challenge is imminent.”
The case involves multiple states investigating Sorsby’s betting history, according to Outkick’s Trey Wallace.
Sorsby is considering entering the NFL supplemental draft depending on the NCAA’s decision. If he receives a permanent ban, he’ll likely pursue professional football either immediately or in next year’s draft.
The investigation extends beyond NCAA jurisdiction.
Multiple state agencies are examining the depth of Sorsby’s gambling activities. This broader investigation will likely keep him sidelined regardless of any NCAA ruling.
Legal experts expect the NCAA portion to resolve quickly, but state and potential federal investigations could continue much longer.
The 2026 college football season hangs in the balance for the Texas Tech signal-caller. Any suspension length will depend on the NCAA’s findings in the coming days.
