NFL Draft prospects face uncertain futures as college stars transition to the professional level. Some college standouts fail to meet expectations in the NFL, while overlooked players like Tom Brady sometimes become all-time greats.
Shedeur Sanders now finds himself in draft limbo. Once projected as a first-round selection, the quarterback has slipped dramatically on draft boards. Some analysts now question whether he’ll be selected before day three—if at all.
Sanders’ unexpected slide past the second and third rounds has left draft experts puzzled.
Meanwhile, his Colorado teammate Travis Hunter was drafted as expected, with a clear development plan already in place.
“We’ll have a plan right now for him to primarily play on offense, while also learning the defensive system and practicing on that side of the ball throughout this offseason program,” said Liam Coen.
For Sanders, watching three quarterbacks selected ahead of him on night two must be concerning. Even the Cleveland Browns opted for Dillon Gabriel instead.
Browns GM Andrew Berry explained the decision: “What he has done throughout his college career is impressive. He’s a really good quarterback and an impressive young man. Sometimes fit comes into play, and there are still four more rounds in the draft. It’s less about where you get picked and more about what you do after you get picked. He’s going to find himself in a really good spot.”
Berry’s comments suggest Gabriel simply fit Cleveland’s system better than Sanders.
ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith has suggested there might be additional factors affecting Sanders’ draft stock before the selection process began.
The situation has deteriorated to the point where some advisors are suggesting Sanders consider returning to college for another season.
