Sports analyst Skip Bayless criticized Shedeur Sanders for his recent speeding tickets during his show this week. Bayless warned the Colorado quarterback that continued off-field issues could derail his NFL prospects.
The Cleveland Browns currently have Sanders on their roster as a fourth-string quarterback.
Bayless delivered what he called advice to Sanders, acknowledging the quarterback’s abilities while expressing concern about his decision-making off the field.
“Shedeur, you gotta be driven, man. This is it. This is your shot. It’s gonna come and it’ll go. I believe in you with all my heart and soul. You’re a tough young man. You took so much punishment over the last two years, so much punishment,” Bayless said.
“You showed me real mental and physical toughness. You have big-time ability and command of that position. Deadly accurate, plenty of arm, clutch. You got the whole package, Shedeur. Think. Make some, at least, mental signs. You just can’t, you can’t do that, or you’re gonna wind up back home with your dad. You’re better than that.”
Sanders transferred from Jackson State to Colorado before the 2023 season. His father Deion Sanders coaches the Buffaloes.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio also criticized Sanders for the speeding incidents. Florio questioned Sanders’ awareness given his high profile in college football.
“Shedeur Sanders is as deep into the public eye as you can be,” Florio said. “It just speaks to a lack of awareness. You have to understand how your behavior is going to result in consequences. After everything he’s been through, you would think he would’ve figured it out by now. One, fine; two, come on, man.”
Sanders was selected in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft after being projected as a potential first-round pick earlier in the process.
The Browns kept Sanders on their roster despite his draft position. NFL teams typically don’t carry fourth-string quarterbacks unless they see potential or have specific development plans.
Sanders completed his second season at Colorado in 2024. He threw for over 4,000 yards and 35 touchdowns while leading the Buffaloes to bowl eligibility.
Guaranteed money remains limited for late-round draft picks in the NFL. Sanders’ position on the Browns roster could change quickly if off-field issues become a distraction for the organization.
Both analysts emphasized that Sanders has the talent to succeed at the professional level. They stressed the importance of making better decisions away from football to maximize his opportunities.
