ESPN analyst Louis Riddick compared Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward to Patrick Mahomes during Wednesday’s episode of NFL Live.
“Look, I said my comp for Cam Ward because of the way he plays, he reminds me of Patrick [Mahomes] with how he can be unconventional, throw the football from all kinds of weird angles. Then just put a bunch of horsepower on it when he needs to,” Riddick said. “To me, if someone was telling me that’s maybe what you’re getting… I’d be pretty damn excited. Now, I’m not saying I’m exactly right. But that’s my bet—that Cam Ward will have that kind of impact and play that kind of style of football in Tennessee if they happen to select him at No. 1.”
Ward is widely projected to be selected by the Tennessee Titans with the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The former Heisman Trophy finalist led Miami to its best season since 2017.
Ward’s playing style features extending plays beyond the pocket and making throws from unconventional arm angles. These skills were on display during his Pro Day in Coral Gables, where he performed in front of NFL scouts and executives, including representatives from the Titans front office.
“You want a guy who has no limitations,” Riddick added. “And quite honestly, he doesn’t have any limitations. So, I see this being a perfect marriage on the football field.”
Former All-Pro running back LeSean McCoy has expressed doubts about Ward’s NFL potential, offering a contrasting view to Riddick’s assessment.
