Cam Ward led Miami to its first 10-win season since 2017, bringing the Hurricanes within reach of an ACC title and College Football Playoff appearance.
Ward reversed his decision to enter the 2024 NFL Draft, choosing to transfer to Miami for another season. Early draft projections had placed him as low as the third round.
His season with the Hurricanes transformed his prospects. Ward became a Heisman Trophy finalist and broke multiple Miami and FBS records, elevating his status for the 2025 NFL Draft to a potential No. 1 overall selection.
The 2025 quarterback draft class features Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders as the leading prospects.
The Tennessee Titans hold the No. 1 pick. While they need a quarterback, they might trade down or select another player.
“OK, you’re either going to draft me or you’re not,” Ward said at the Davey O’Brien Award ceremony, where he was honored as the nation’s top college quarterback, per ESPN. “If you don’t draft me, that’s your fault. You’ve got to remember—you’re the same team that’s got to play me for the rest of my career, and I’ll remember that.”
Ward’s path to the NFL started as a zero-star recruit. SEC programs overlooked him due to limited passing experience in his high school’s Wing-T offense. He began at FCS program Incarnate Word, transferred to Washington State for two seasons, then finished at Miami.
His career statistics include:
– 158 touchdown passes
– 18,189 total passing yards (third-most in NCAA history)
– 6,908 yards at Incarnate Word
– 6,968 yards at Washington State
– 4,313 yards at Miami
At Miami, Ward set single-season records with:
– 305 completions
– 39 touchdown passes
– 67.2% completion percentage
– 4,313 passing yards
The Browns, Giants, and Raiders all need quarterbacks and could select Ward within the top six picks if the Titans pass.
