Texas missed the College Football Playoff in 2025 after making consecutive appearances the previous two seasons. The Longhorns responded by landing several elite transfers through the portal.
The program’s biggest splash was landing Cam Coleman from Auburn. The consensus No. 1 wide receiver in the portal projects as a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
But CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer identified a different transfer who could “swing College Football Playoff hopes” for Texas: offensive tackle Melvin Siani.
247Sports ranked Siani as the No. 6 offensive tackle in the 2026 transfer portal class. On3/Rivals had him at No. 4.
The Ontario native originally signed with Temple out of high school. He spent two seasons there, including a redshirt year, before transferring to Wake Forest for 2025.
Siani didn’t allow a single sack as a member of the Demon Deacons last season. He committed to Texas in January.

The offensive line was a major problem for Texas in 2025. The Longhorns ranked No. 109 in pressures allowed and couldn’t run the ball consistently.
“That unit must improve for Texas to reach its goals,” Hummer wrote.
Siani brings both talent and experience to the unit. Texas already has All-American candidate Trevor Goosby at left tackle. Adding Siani gives the Longhorns what could be the strongest tackle pairing in the country.
The move also creates depth across the line. Last year’s starting right tackle Brandon Baker can slide inside to guard or center. That gives Texas an interior offensive line with more than 3,000 combined career snaps of experience.
Texas didn’t stop with Siani. The program also added tackle Jonte Newman through the portal.
The Longhorns brought in three interior linemen as well: Laurence Seymore, Dylan Sikorski, and Paris Patterson Jr.
The additions provide both starting-caliber talent and valuable depth as Texas looks to return to championship contention in 2026.
