The Tennessee Volunteers are building momentum in their 2027 recruiting class after hosting several top targets during a productive weekend on Rocky Top.

The program secured multiple commitments and appears close to landing another from Q’Mari Hudson, according to A To Z Sports.

“According to Simmons, Hudson, who took an official visit to Tennessee this past weekend, was initially planning to announce his commitment in July, but he’s now planning to commit on June 13,” A To Z’s Zach Ragan reported.

Georges Visit Shows Promise

Tennessee also hosted one of their priority targets in David Gabriel Georges. The Volunteers made sure to showcase their strength and conditioning program during his official visit.

The program brought Georges into the weight room to meet with strength coach Rock Owings, who helped Indiana win a national championship last season.

“Owings, who was a key part of Indiana’s national championship run last season (it probably doesn’t happen without him), is one of the top strength coaches in the nation. He’s one of the biggest weapons the Vols have in the battle against Ohio State for Gabriel Georges. And it’s certainly a big positive that Tennessee made sure to make time between photo shoots and fashion shows to show Gabriel Georges what he undoubtedly cares about the most during the visit,” Ragan wrote.

Georges is also considering Ohio State in what’s shaping up to be a competitive recruiting battle.

On3’s Chad Simmons provided an encouraging update on Tennessee’s position in the race.

“If Signing Day was today, Heupel’s program would be my pick,” Simmons wrote.

System Success Attracts Talent

Tennessee’s running backs have thrived under Josh Heupel’s offensive system over the past few seasons. The success has become a major selling point for recruits like Georges.

Landing a player of Georges’ caliber would elevate the running back room and help attract more elite talent in future recruiting cycles.

The recruitment still has several weeks to play out, but Heupel and his staff have positioned themselves well in the race. Tennessee’s ability to showcase both their facilities and their track record of developing running backs appears to be paying dividends with top prospects.
