Virginia announced that quarterback Chandler Morris will not return to tonight’s game against Wake Forest after suffering an injury in the second quarter.
The Cavaliers entered the contest undefeated in ACC play. Morris was injured after taking a hit to the head during a scramble.

Sophomore Daniel Kaelin has taken over at quarterback for the remainder of the game.
What happened to Chandler Morris?
Morris scrambled for a six-yard gain and slid to give himself up. Two Wake Forest defenders hit him late, resulting in a personal foul penalty against the Demon Deacons.
The senior quarterback was attended to on the field before walking to the sideline. He headed directly to the locker room for evaluation.
Virginia fans gave Morris a standing ovation as he left the field. The student section chanted his name during the injury timeout.
Replays showed what appeared to be a questionable no-call for targeting on the hit.
Virginia’s backup quarterback
Daniel Kaelin is a sophomore transfer from Nebraska. He was listed as the second-string quarterback on the depth chart entering the season.
Kaelin made an immediate impact after entering the game.
He broke off a 54-yard run on one of his first snaps. The play led to a field goal for the Cavaliers.
Morris’ season statistics
Morris is having a career season for Virginia, which is ranked for the first time since 2021. The Cavaliers entered tonight’s game undefeated in conference play.

- 12 passing touchdowns
- 5 interceptions
- 214 rushing yards
- 4 rushing touchdowns
His best performance came against Stanford, where he threw for 380 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-20 victory. Morris also accounted for four total touchdowns in Virginia’s double-overtime win over then-No. 8 Florida State.
The Cavaliers trail 10-6 at halftime with Kaelin now leading the offense. Virginia’s playoff hopes depend heavily on finishing strong in ACC play.
Morris had completed 3 of 6 passes for 19 yards before the injury occurred. He also had six rushing yards on the play where he was hurt.
