Shedeur Sanders is making his move in Cleveland’s quarterback competition according to team insider reports. The fifth-round pick has impressed coaches and teammates during recent practice sessions and minicamps.

Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot believes Sanders is closing the gap on the three quarterbacks ahead of him in the depth chart.

“If Shedeur Sanders continues to progress in training camp like he has over the past two weeks, he’ll narrow the gap on the other three Browns quarterbacks in the competition,” Cabot wrote.

Sanders started spring practices slowly but has picked up momentum over the past two weeks. He’s connecting on passes, throwing touchdowns, and grasping the offensive scheme.

He’s still listed as the fourth-team quarterback with significant ground to make up.

“But he’s made significant strides during recent organized team activities and the mandatory minicamp, remaining alive in the competition,” Cabot noted.

Sanders won’t challenge for the Week 1 starting job. But his recent progress keeps him in the conversation in Cleveland’s unsettled quarterback room.

The Browns are running a four-man competition between veterans Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco alongside rookies Dillon Gabriel and Sanders.

“He’s still a longshot to start on opening day, but if he knocks the Browns’ socks off during the preseason, he’ll at least remain in the conversation,” Cabot wrote.

Sanders’ immediate goal is securing a spot on the 53-man roster. Making the team would give him opportunities to prove himself later in the season or as a backup option.

His progress reports from Berea suggest Sanders is on track to achieve that goal. The rookie has shown steady improvement after his initial adjustment period to the NFL level.

“It’s more likely that he’d make his way onto the field later in the season, but no one has been ruled out yet in the four-man competition,” Cabot added.

Sanders’ recent surge demonstrates how quickly things can change in training camp. The fifth-round pick is positioning himself as a developmental option for Cleveland’s future.
