Deion Sanders announced a press conference for Monday with his medical team, according to USA Today. The Colorado coach returned to campus after dealing with an undisclosed health issue at his ranch in east Texas this summer.

Sanders, 57, made the announcement on social media July 25, just days before his team reports for preseason training camp.

The timing has sparked speculation about Sanders’ future in Boulder. Some believe he’s planning an exit now that his sons, Shedeur and Shilo Sanders, along with Travis Hunter, are heading to the NFL.

Glory Colorado’s John Mitchell thinks the opposite. He wonders if Sanders might coach with restrictions this season, similar to Hugh Freeze’s approach during his Liberty debut against Syracuse in 2019.

“It’s certainly fair for Colorado fans to be nervous,” Mitchell said. “It’s probably ging to be much ado about nothing, but it is highly unusual for a coach to call a press conference and bring his medical team with him.”

“Perhaps Coach Prime may have some restrictions this season? Could be pull a Hugh Freeze and coach from a bed in the pressbox?”

Sanders has kept details about his health issue sparse. A school spokesman confirmed he’s back in Boulder.

The Buffaloes coach has already been doing more remote work, skipping recruiting visits to homes and high schools.

Coaching from somewhere other than the sidelines sounds realistic given Sanders’ recent health concerns and his preference for remote work this summer.
