Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders faces uncertainty about his position in next month’s NFL draft, with mock drafts placing him anywhere from the top picks to the second half of the first round.
Some NFL evaluators have concerns about Sanders being the son of his head coach at Colorado, Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. Speculation has emerged that the elder Sanders might attempt to influence which teams select his son.
Deion Sanders denied he would interfere with the draft process.
“It’s not nerve-wracking. It’s a blessing. They receive a lot more hate now than what I did… My kids don’t have the luxury of saying where they want to go. We would never do that.”
Shedeur Sanders threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns with a 74.0 percent completion rate during the 2024 season.
While scouts praise his accuracy, they’ve noted limitations in athleticism and arm strength. His performance in the Alamo Bowl raised additional questions about his readiness for the NFL.
The Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns and New York Giants hold the top three picks in this year’s draft. Miami’s Cam Ward is widely considered the top quarterback prospect and could go first overall.
Both the Browns and Giants need starting quarterbacks.
It remains unclear if either team will select Sanders or whether his father might attempt to influence the process despite his public statements.
