Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is helping Colorado recruit top prospects despite being in the NFL. The former Buffaloes star appeared at the Overtime OT7 Finals over the weekend to connect with two key recruiting targets.

According to On SI’s Angele Miele, Sanders was working to bring in Cederian Morgan and Jordan Clay, both four-star receivers from the Class of 2026.

Morgan plays at Benjamin Russell High School in Alabama. Clay suits up for Madison High School in Texas.

Sanders has experience as a recruiter for his father’s program. He previously helped Colorado land Julian Lewis, who’s expected to be his successor at quarterback.

"Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is in the NFL now, but he is still helping out the Colorado Buffaloes in a crucial way," Miele wrote. "Sanders made an appearance at the Overtime OT7 Finals, where a couple of Colorado’s top recruiting targets were participating."

The timing is crucial for Colorado’s recruiting efforts.

“As ‘Coach Prime’ recovers from an unspecified health issue in Texas, unable to welcome recruits visiting Colorado, his son making an appearance could end up going a long way for not just Morgan and Clay, but other undecided recruits,” Miele noted.

Colorado has landed just one four-star commitment from the 2026 class so far. Safety Preston Ashley signed with the Buffaloes earlier this cycle.

Morgan is currently projected to Alabama according to 247Sports crystal ball predictions. Clay’s recruitment remains wide open with no clear favorite.

Sanders’ NFL Transition

The Browns selected Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He sits behind three quarterbacks on Cleveland’s depth chart heading into his rookie season.

Sanders faces an uphill battle to earn playing time. The former Colorado star must prove himself at the professional level after a successful college career.

His connection to Colorado recruiting shows the lasting impact he had in Boulder. Sanders helped elevate the program’s profile during his time with Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders.

The younger Sanders previously played at Jackson State before transferring to Colorado. He became one of college football’s most recognizable players during his Buffaloes tenure.

Colorado could benefit significantly from landing both Morgan and Clay. The receivers would boost the program’s recruiting rankings and provide immediate talent for future quarterbacks.

Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy during Sanders’ final season at Colorado, highlighting the program’s recent success in developing NFL-caliber talent.

Sanders continues supporting his father’s program while pursuing his own professional career. His recruiting efforts demonstrate the family’s commitment to Colorado football’s continued growth.
