The Cleveland Browns are monitoring quarterback Shedeur Sanders after he received two speeding violations within a month, according to multiple reports. Sanders, who fell from projected first-round status to a Day Three selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, now faces questions about his off-field decision-making as a rookie.
Sanders joined a Browns roster that already carried five quarterbacks. The speeding incidents have drawn criticism from analysts and raised concerns about his maturity.
"A speeding ticket is far from the worst offense a person can commit, but this won’t do anything to challenge perceptions that Sanders lacks the maturity NFL teams look for in their franchise quarterback," NBC’s Michael David Smith wrote.
FS1’s Colin Cowherd was more direct in his criticism of Sanders.
“And now this… 100 mph… Sorry, don’t minimize it, don’t pander. This is not good for a quarterback. Not good. As of today… I don’t think about him the same.”
The violations occurred within weeks of each other. Sanders was cited for driving 100 mph in one incident.
USA Today’s Nate Davis suggested Sanders could face serious consequences if another incident occurs.
"Sanders should practice what he’s already preached. If he’s not more careful, the next ticket he’s served with could be the one-way variety β to football exile," Davis wrote.
Sanders addressed the violations during a charity softball game appearance. His response drew additional criticism for its tone.
"In an awkward-at-best attempt at an apology Thursday at a charity softball game, Sanders admitted, ‘I’ve made some wrong choices.’ But he hardly seemed to take the situation seriously, failing to soften a bad look," wrote Davis.

Sanders’s draft stock fell significantly during the pre-draft process. Multiple teams reportedly passed on him due to character concerns that that have now resurfaced with these violations.
The Browns haven’t commented publicly on Sanders’s situation. NFL teams typically monitor rookie behavior closely during the first year.
Sanders must compete for a roster spot among six quarterbacks on Cleveland’s depth chart. The speeding incidents complicate his path to making the team as organizations prioritize character evaluation for young players.
