The Cleveland Browns continue working through their quarterback depth chart with four players currently in the room. Shedeur Sanders sits at the bottom of that depth chart, but he’s making his mark in Cleveland through community work.

“I’ll be honest with you, I’ve never seen what Shedeur Sanders is doing this early on in a player’s career. I’ve never seen that before, I’ve never seen a rookie come into the league and before he even played a snap is already in the Garden Valley Projects … All the things he’s doing (in the community). It’s a special thing he’s doing, that’s not normal.”

That’s Cecil Shorts speaking on Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan about Sanders’ community involvement.

Sanders showed improvement in the preseason opener. That performance came after earlier practices where he had to throw to equipment staff due to receiver availability issues.

“Shedeur Sanders apparently is throwing not to receivers but to equipment guys. They have got equipment guys snapping him the ball and then also running the routes. Mahomes is throwing to Kelce, Shedeur is throwing to equipment guys.”

Aaron Goldhammer from ESPN Cleveland described those practice situations.

Former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick expects Joe Flacco to start Week One. Flacco signed a one-year deal with Cleveland as the team evaluates its long-term quarterback plans.

Sanders has been learning from Flacco during their time together. In a recent video, Sanders explained their working relationship.

“I see Joe do something, and I’m like, ‘Alright, bro. I’m gonna try that.’ And then I do it and it’s cool cause I’m like, ‘Hey, bruh I did this cause I seen you do it.’ And then he’ll be smiling like a proud dad.”

The rookie quarterback described how Flacco reacts when Sanders mimics techniques he observes.

Sanders continues finding ways to connect with teammates despite his position on the depth chart.

Flacco, who’s nearing the end of his career, appears to enjoy mentoring the younger quarterbacks. The veteran’s willingness to share knowledge reflects the relationship that’s developed between the two quarterbacks.

The Browns are taking their time with quarterback decisions while Flacco provides veteran leadership in the room.
