NFL front offices are finalizing their draft decisions as the countdown continues. These choices can transform franchises, especially when selecting a quarterback.
Shedeur Sanders has established himself as a standout performer at Colorado and will likely be the second quarterback selected in this year’s draft. The question remains: Which team provides the best landing spot?
“Systematically, the Giants are almost certainly the best fit for Sanders’ play style,” ESPN’s Ben Solak says. “Head coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka’s offense has relied on RPOs, but they’re not a cornerstone of the system. In general, they’ve had a gun and spread-heavy approach that encourages quick targets to the underneath areas of the field — Sanders’ strengths.”
The Giants moved on from quarterback Daniel Jones last season, splitting quarterback duties between Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock. Sanders could provide the franchise with a long-term solution at the position.
Solak notes that the Giants, unlike other teams with early first-round picks, have the offensive weapons to support Sanders’ development. Second-year receiver Malik Nabers has been compared to Travis Hunter, who was Sanders’ primary target at Colorado.
“There aren’t many receivers in the league whom Sanders would enjoy working with more than Nabers,” Solak said.

Offensive tackle Andrew Thomas was also identified as a key player who could protect Sanders during his rookie season. As a left tackle, Thomas would shield Sanders’ blind side, reducing pressure as the rookie faces NFL defenses.
Despite the ideal fit, Solak doesn’t expect the Giants to select Sanders with their third overall pick.
“I strongly believe they won’t take him at No. 3,” he said. “They have the No. 34 pick and an extra third-rounder with which to trade, however. Moving up into the end of Round 1 to secure Sanders would be a wise franchise-building move.”
