Browns have no plans to trade quarterbacks as competition heats up

The Cleveland Browns currently have no plans to trade any of their four quarterbacks, according to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot. Instead, the team will let organized team activities determine how the quarterback situation unfolds.

“The Browns will conduct concurrent offensive drills in OTAs to maximize the reps for all four quarterbacks, and give them as level a playing field as possible,” Cabot reported. “All four will have to have a chance to throw to Jerry Jeudy, David Njoku and Cedric Tillman to make the competition fair.”

With Deshaun Watson still recovering from injury, the Browns added significant quarterback depth this offseason.

The team signed veteran Joe Flacco, traded for Kenny Pickett, and drafted rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.

Not everyone believes the quarterback competition will proceed smoothly. Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon predicts another “messy, chaotic season” could unfold in Cleveland, particularly at the quarterback position.

Gagnon suggests the Browns might enter desperation mode by midseason if Watson can’t perform consistently.

“My guess? Flacco is out by the end of September, Pickett gets fried by the Vikings and Steelers in October, and the struggling Browns go to Sanders for a mid-October home matchup with Miami,” Gagnon wrote. “Even that should be a roller-coaster ride, and I’ll bet a team that is long out of it goes out of its way to get a look at Gabriel before the campaign comes to an end.”

Gagnon ultimately predicts the Browns will start Sanders from Week 7 before switching to Gabriel in Week 14 against the Titans.

If these predictions prove accurate, Cleveland could find itself picking in the top five of the 2026 NFL Draft.
