Cornell’s CJ Kirst has officially become the NCAA lacrosse all-time goals leader.

The senior attack wasted no time Saturday, scoring the opening goal at Schoellkopf Field to break the record in his 61st career college game.

The record-breaking moment came as No. 1 ranked Cornell defeated Dartmouth 10-8 to secure the Ivy League regular season championship.

Kirst added a second goal during the contest, bringing his career total to 226 and counting.

The Big Red will host the Ivy League Tournament next weekend before advancing to the NCAA Tournament.

Kirst is attempting to lead Cornell to its first national championship since the program won three titles in the 1970s (1971, 1976 and 1977). Cornell last appeared in the championship game in 2022.

As the season continues, Kirst has the opportunity to extend his Division I goal-scoring record.

Virginia’s Payton Cormier previously held the record, set in May 2024. Before Cormier, the record belonged to Mac O’Keefe, with Justin Guterding and Zack Greer also part of the record’s history.

While team success likely remains Kirst’s priority over individual achievements, his scoring prowess will be crucial for Cornell’s championship aspirations.

Throughout his career, Kirst has consistently delivered when his team needs a goal – more than any player in Division I lacrosse history.
