Oregon quarterback Dante Moore is positioned to succeed as the Ducks’ starter in 2024, according to On3’s J.D. PicKell.
PicKell discussed Moore’s potential in a recent On3 video, highlighting the quarterback’s fit with head coach Dan Lanning and offensive coordinator Will Stein.
“I think that’s what Dante Moore believed he had to do when he got to Oregon,” PicKell said. “He knew he wasn’t getting to Eugene and playing right away [as a former five-star quarterback]. He knew it was gonna be a few minutes before he got the [starting quarterback] job at Oregon, but he was cool with that. Why? Cause he understood that he would eventually have his time, and when his time came, he wanted be all the way in.”
Moore, entering his junior season, takes over for Dillon Gabriel as the Ducks begin their inaugural Big Ten season.
The defending Big Ten champions face a favorable early schedule, according to PicKell, before a conference title rematch against Penn State.
Oregon defeated Penn State 45-37 in Indianapolis last December.
“The first four games Oregon plays, [the] toughest game there is Oklahoma State,” PicKell said. “But, like, there’s a ramp-up period there. You got Northwestern on there – it’s not gonna be the most difficult schedule of all-time to get Dante Moore up to speed.”
PicKell believes Moore could lead the Ducks to another conference championship and playoff appearance.
“Given what we know about Will Stein, given what I believe to be true about Dante Moore’s ability and what the rest of the industry believes to be true about his ability, I believe that Dante Moore is trustworthy to pick up where Dillon Gabriel left off, where Bo Nix left off and the weapons at Oregon, too, I think are only going to cater to his success.”
Moore, a former five-star recruit, steps into an offense that has produced consecutive successful quarterback transitions from Bo Nix to Gabriel.
