Colorado landed a commitment from four-star dual-threat quarterback Andre Adams during Tuesday’s episode of ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show.

Adams ranks as the 165th overall player and 15th-ranked quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class, according to On3.

The commitment gives Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes their quarterback of the future. Adams threw for 4,273 yards and 48 touchdowns last season.

He’s expected to fit well in offensive coordinator Brennan Marion’s “Go-Go” offensive scheme.

Adams will have a crossover year with current starting quarterback Julian Lewis, who’ll be a junior when Adams arrives and eligible for the 2028 NFL Draft. The timeline allows for a smooth transition at the position.

Adams becomes Colorado’s second commit in the 2027 class. Three-star cornerback Davon Dericho announced his commitment to the Buffs earlier this year.

Recruiting Strategy Shift

The commitment represents a shift for Sanders, who has relied heavily on the transfer portal during his coaching career. Coach Prime has used what he calls a “mock NFL free agency model” to build his rosters.

That approach worked well initially. Sanders brought Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter with him from Jackson State, and both became stars at Colorado.

But the portal strategy has become more challenging. It’s been over a year since Sanders had carryover players from his previous stops available, and competition for top portal targets has intensified.

Adams becomes the fourth four-star quarterback to commit to Colorado under Sanders’ tenure.
