Dylan Raiola plans to enter the transfer portal after two seasons with Nebraska, according to On3 Sports.
The quarterback’s relationship with coach Matt Rhule apparently didn’t work out. Raiola’s second season was cut short due to injury.
Raiola hasn’t formally announced his transfer plans yet.
Oregon has emerged as an early school of interest for the quarterback, CBS Sports’ Chris Hummer reported. The Ducks could be looking for a new starter if current quarterback Dante Moore declares for the NFL Draft.
“Sources have mentioned Oregon as an early school of interest for Dylan Raiola and his camp,” Hummer tweeted.
Moore’s decision will likely impact Oregon’s pursuit of Raiola. There’s growing belief within the industry that Moore will turn pro rather than return for another season.
“Dante Moore could still return to Oregon next season. But there’s been a growing belief within the industry that Moore will end up turning pro,” Hummer added.
Nebraska recruit Trae Taylor (Class of 2027) responded to the news on social media. The quarterback prospect said he’s still committed to the Cornhuskers despite Raiola’s departure.
“Part of why I’m a Husker is because of Dylan. Gave me a ton of great advice during my recruitment. Gave his all to the program while he was at Nebraska. Like his game play or not we should all respect his efforts and him. That being said I’m proud to be a Husker N vs Everybody,” Taylor wrote.
The Cornhuskers will need to find a new starting quarterback for next season. Nebraska’s coaching staff will likely explore both transfer portal options and their current roster.
Raiola’s potential move highlights the ongoing quarterback carousel in the Big Ten. Several programs are expected to be active in the portal as teams look to upgrade their quarterback rooms.
The transfer portal opens officially after bowl season ends. Raiola’s decision could trigger additional moves as programs scramble to fill their needs at the position.
Oregon coach Dan Lanning has experience developing quarterbacks and could be an attractive landing spot. The Ducks’ offensive system might be a good fit for Raiola’s skill set.
Multiple Big Ten programs are reportedly monitoring the situation closely. The quarterback position remains remains the most important need for teams looking to compete at the highest level.
