ESPN NFL insider Field Yates has declared Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward “the top QB of this class” in his latest mock draft, projecting the New York Giants will trade up to select him first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Ward has been in a tight competition with Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders for the title of best quarterback prospect.

The Miami signal-caller completed 67.2% of his passes for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and seven interceptions during the 2024 college football season. He added 204 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

His 88.7 QBR ranked second in the FBS.

“Ward is the top QB of this class. His combination of physical ability, improvisational skills and poise in big moments makes him an ideal selection for coach Brian Daboll. His 88.7 QBR was second in the FBS, and his 29 completions of 20-plus air yards tied for fifth,” Yates wrote in his ESPN mock draft.

Ward’s 29 completions on passes traveling 20+ yards downfield tied for fifth nationally.

Both Ward and Sanders possess elite arm talent that has NFL scouts projecting them as potential franchise quarterbacks.

The Giants currently hold the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, meaning they would need to trade up to secure Ward if Yates’ projection proves accurate.

Ward’s draft stock has risen steadily throughout the season as he’s showcased his ability to make plays both from the pocket and when protection breaks down.
