ESPN Power Rankings: Texas A&M Drops After South Carolina Victory image

Texas A&M dropped to No. 3 in ESPN’s Week 12 college football power rankings despite staying unbeaten after a 31-30 comeback win over South Carolina.

The Aggies trailed 30-3 late in the first half before mounting what became the largest rally in SEC history.

Ohio State held the top spot following a dominant 48-10 victory over UCLA. Indiana climbed to No. 2 after defeating Wisconsin, keeping the Hoosiers perfect at 11-0.

ESPN analysts pointed to Texas A&M’s inconsistent play as the reason for the drop. The Aggies rank near the bottom nationally in red-zone defense while posting the country’s best third-down conversion rate.

That split showed up again against South Carolina, which scored touchdowns on all five red-zone trips.

Quarterback Marcel Reed struggled early, completing just 6 of 19 passes with two interceptions in the first half. He turned it around completely, going 16-of-20 with three touchdown passes after halftime.

The comeback gave Mike Elko’s team a 10-0 record but raised questions about consistency. Texas A&M needs steadier performances as it chases its first College Football Playoff berth.

Ohio State’s defense allowed just two first-half first downs against UCLA. The Buckeyes’ offense moved the ball with ease throughout the game.

Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza continues his Heisman Trophy campaign, though injuries are testing the Hoosiers’ depth.

Texas A&M hosts 1-10 Samford next weekend before traveling to Texas for the rivalry game on Nov. 28.
