UCLA is reportedly ready to make a deal with former Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava, according to sports host Colin Cowherd. Iamaleava has become the focal point of attention throughout college football after skipping Tennessee’s spring game practice.

The quarterback’s absence reportedly stemmed from financial compensation issues.

A representative for Iamaleava criticized Tennessee on Wednesday. While the quarterback has kept quiet, those in his circle have been outspoken about the situation.

“I am told — moments ago — Nico Iamaleava is going to UCLA. Family still claims it’s NOT about the money, It’s about the Vol Football offense. I was not told what the Bruins are paying,” Colin Cowherd posted.

The claim has raised questions among many observers. Josh Heupel at Tennessee has established credentials as an offensive coach, while UCLA’s offensive coordinator is new to the position. The logic of leaving Tennessee’s offense for UCLA’s unproven system has puzzled many analysts.

ESPN’s Chris Low expressed what many are thinking about the situation.

“The person I would like to hear from in this whole ordeal is a candid Nico Iamaleava himself and what HIS true feelings are — not his family’s, not his reps, not the fans, not those of us in the media and not coaches or staff at Tennessee. Just Nico,” Low wrote.

Iamaleava hasn’t made any public statements about his situation.

His father and representative have spoken for him, but a direct statement from Iamaleava himself could significantly change public perception of the transfer situation.
