A representative for Iamaleava criticized Tennessee on Wednesday. While the quarterback has kept quiet, those in his circle have been outspoken about the situation.
“I am told — moments ago — Nico Iamaleava is going to UCLA. Family still claims it’s NOT about the money, It’s about the Vol Football offense. I was not told what the Bruins are paying,” Colin Cowherd posted.
The claim has raised questions among many observers. Josh Heupel at Tennessee has established credentials as an offensive coach, while UCLA’s offensive coordinator is new to the position. The logic of leaving Tennessee’s offense for UCLA’s unproven system has puzzled many analysts.
ESPN’s Chris Low expressed what many are thinking about the situation.
“The person I would like to hear from in this whole ordeal is a candid Nico Iamaleava himself and what HIS true feelings are — not his family’s, not his reps, not the fans, not those of us in the media and not coaches or staff at Tennessee. Just Nico,” Low wrote.
