The Indianapolis Colts are positioning themselves for a potential AFC playoff run with recently-signed veteran quarterback Philip Rivers leading the charge down the stretch.
But it’s rookie tight end Tyler Warren who’s already turning heads as another Penn State product ready to make his mark in the NFL.
College Football HQ’s Nick Merriam believes Warren shouldn’t be overlooked heading into next season.
“Tyler Warren looks like a future all-pro in the Colts offense.”
Warren has shown flashes of his potential through four touchdown catches this season. Three of those scores came in consecutive weeks against the Las Vegas Raiders, Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Chargers.
The Colts invested $20.9 million in Warren according to Spotrac, and coach Shane Steichen explained why in April.
“You got a target that big with that size, he plays above the rim. Sometimes when guys are on him, he’s still open.”
Steichen praised Warren’s coachability and versatility during the same interview.
“He’s an in-line (player), he can block, you can split him out wide, you can throw middle screens just get the ball in his hands however you can.”
The Colts clearly view Warren as part of their long-term plans moving forward. His development will be crucial as the team builds around their core players.
“He’s a guy that can do it all.”
Time will tell if Warren lives up to the early praise from his coaching staff.
