Ohio State flipped Jay Timmons, the nation’s No. 2 cornerback prospect, from Florida State on Thursday according to On3. The Buckeyes landed the son of former Florida State All-American and NFL linebacker Lawrence Timmons in a major recruiting win.
Timmons is ranked as the No. 29 overall prospect in the 2026 class by Rivals.
The Pine-Richland standout said Ohio State’s culture and development of defensive backs convinced him to switch his commitment.
“I want to compete with the best. The standard that I need to push me is at Ohio State.”
Ohio State has the opportunity to finish off the 2026 Class stronger than any program in the country

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound two-way player took his official visit to Columbus during Ohio State’s win over Penn State. He called the atmosphere unreal.
“People don’t stop saying O-H-I-O. The people here are super loyal.”
Timmons’ commitment gives Ohio State 23 pledges in their 2026 class. The Buckeyes now sit just outside the top 10 nationally in class rankings.
The flip represents a significant blow for Mike Norvell and Florida State. Losing a legacy recruit with Timmons’ talent raises questions about the program’s recruiting momentum.
The Seminoles have struggled to keep top defensive targets committed during a disappointing 2025 season. Missing on a player with family ties to the program shows the pressure building in Tallahassee.
Florida State’s recruiting challenges come amid uncertainty about Norvell’s long-term future with the program.
