Florida State announced the addition of transfer quarterback Thomas Castellanos this week, but the move has already sparked controversy across social media.
Castellanos didn’t hold back when discussing his departure from Boston College, directly criticizing former head coach Bill O’Brien in recent interviews.
“Bill O’Brien and I butted heads early in the season. I got banged up a few games. We had a meeting, and it kind of blew up in my face. I did so much for that program, and I just wasn’t repaid the right way,” Castellanos said.
The quarterback is entering his final season of eligibility with the Seminoles. He’s looking to boost both his draft stock and the job security of head coach Mike Norvell, who faces significant pressure heading into the season.
“I’m not just playing for Florida State. I’m playing for coaches who are fathers and who have homes and families here,” Castellanos stated. “I’m trying to save jobs and win.”
Castellanos made headlines with his assessment of his ACC performances over the past two seasons.
“And then the ACC. I feel like I tore the ACC up by my d**n self for the last two years, and now I’m with a squad. I hope people don’t think that Florida State is going to be the same team it was last year because we have weapons. People can’t just sit back in zone coverage and watch me.”
That claim drew immediate pushback from former Boston College teammate Cameron Martinez.
Martinez took to social media to challenge the narrative.
“Mm that ain’t how I remember it,” Martinez posted.

The public disagreement highlights lingering tensions from Castellanos‘ departure from Boston College last season.
He left the program before the team’s bowl game, citing the meeting with O’Brien as a turning point in their relationship.
Castellanos will need to prove his words on the field at Florida State. The Seminoles are coming off a disappointing season and need immediate improvement at quarterback.
The ACC features several strong defenses this season, giving Castellanos plenty of opportunities to back up his claims about dominating the conference.
