Melbourne, Florida’s Eau Gallie High School star, Sandman Thompson, is making waves in the college football scene. He’s switched his commitment from FIU to Florida State.

Thompson, once set on Oregon, had plans to play for the Panthers in Miami. But things took a turn when he visited Tallahassee on January 11th. Now, he’s a fresh addition to FSU’s 2025 lineup.

So, why’s this a big deal? Let’s break it down. Thompson is ranked as the No. 83 interior offensive lineman (IOL) and No. 133 player in Florida for 2025, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. Nationally, he stands at No. 1,075. Not too shabby, right?

FSU was on the hunt for a strong center, and Thompson quickly caught their eye. His campus visit left quite an impression. The new offensive line coach, Herb Hand, seems to have sealed the deal.

“Amazing visit,” Thompson shared with Warchant. “Very genuine staff up here at Florida State.”

He also praised Hand, saying, “Very knowledgeable. Knows how to create a true dominant center. I felt like a top priority, top person, and I’m wanted. That’s exactly how I felt, and they made that clear.”

With Thompson on board, FSU’s offensive line class is shaping up nicely. He joins fellow recruits Mario Nash from De Kalb, Mississippi, and Sean Poret from Atlanta.

As we look ahead, FSU fans are likely wondering: Could Thompson be the next big thing for the Seminoles? Only time will tell, but it sure looks promising!
