NFL free agency officially began on Monday, and several hours into the process, numerous impact players remain available who could significantly boost multiple teams.
Former Arkansas Razorback linebacker Dre Greenlaw has been a key contributor for the San Francisco 49ers during their recent championship pursuits. He tore his Achilles during Super Bowl LVIII last February. Despite playing just two games in the 2024 season, Greenlaw demonstrated his value to the team.
His ability to make plays in both pass and run defense helped make San Francisco one of the NFL’s top defensive units in recent years before his injury.
Greenlaw is now a free agent. While the 49ers want to retain him, their salary cap constraints and the expected contract extension for quarterback Brock Purdy make this challenging.
Michael Silver of The Athletic reports that the Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans and Denver Broncos have expressed serious interest in Greenlaw.
During his four-year career at Arkansas, Greenlaw appeared in 41 games, recording 4.0 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and three interceptions.
The 49ers selected him in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
In 2023, his last healthy season, Greenlaw tallied 1.5 sacks, five tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, four passes defended and 120 total tackles (75 solo).
