Heisman Heat Index Week 13 image

With the season heading into its final stretch, the Heisman Trophy race is taking shape around a select group of candidates.

This year’s field is dominated by quarterbacks. The few non-quarterback contenders have faded from serious consideration heading into championship weekend.

The final four candidates come from just two conferences. Only one plays west of the Mississippi River.

Heisman Heat Index for Week 13

1. Fernando Mendoza – Indiana

Indiana’s quarterback has emerged as the frontrunner behind the program’s undefeated season. Mendoza is completing 73% of his passes for 2,641 yards and 30 touchdowns against five interceptions.

He’s added 200 rushing yards and five rushing scores.

The defining moment came in his clutch touchdown pass against Penn State. That performance elevated Mendoza above his competition in what’s become a quarterback-centric race.

2. Julian Sayin – Ohio State

Sayin leads the nation’s top-ranked team while posting the highest completion percentage among major candidates. He’s connecting on over 80% of his throws with 25 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Ohio State’s offense has looked dominant under his direction.

The Buckeyes’ continued success keeps Sayin firmly in contention for college football’s most prestigious individual award.

3. Marcel Reed – Texas A&M

Texas A&M’s quarterback engineered a 27-point comeback against South Carolina last week. The rally marked his signature Heisman moment at the perfect time in the season.

Reed has thrown for 2,632 yards and 22 touchdowns. He’s added 391 rushing yards with six rushing scores.

His dual-threat ability and clutch performances have made him one of the most dynamic players in the country.

4. Gunner Stockton – Georgia

Georgia’s quarterback delivered a standout performance against No. 10 Texas. Stockton completed 24 of 29 passes for 229 yards and four touchdowns in that victory.

He’s thrown 19 touchdowns against three interceptions this season.

Stockton’s efficiency and poise in big games have kept Georgia in the championship conversation while establishing his Heisman credentials.
