The Sporting News announced its return to print publication after a 14-year hiatus, launching with a comprehensive College Football Preview for the 2026 season.
The publication marks the company’s 140th year in sports journalism. It’s their first magazine since 2012 and first preview publication in a decade.
The preview includes analysis and storylines across all FBS teams and top FCS schools. The magazine features Heisman Watch coverage, playoff predictions, and profiles of breakout stars including Arch Manning and Dante Moore.
Since ending print operations, The Sporting News expanded into a global digital brand reaching fans across 15 editions worldwide. The company also released a 2026 NFL Preview alongside the college football issue, with additional special publications planned.
Indiana’s Championship Defense
The preview examines which teams could challenge Indiana’s position after their championship run under Curt Cignetti. The Hoosiers completed one of college football’s most dramatic turnarounds, going from Big Ten bottom-dweller to national champion.
That accomplishment earned inclusion in The Sporting News’ list of 140 greatest sports moments, published online earlier this year for their anniversary celebration.
The 12-team playoff format creates opportunities for surprise contenders each season. The magazine identifies which programs have the best chance to reach the expanded playoff field.
Distribution and Availability
The College Football 2026 Preview is available at major retailers including Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, Barnes & Noble, and Books-A-Million. Supermarkets and other retailers nationwide also carry the issue.
