Notre Dame announced a memorial service for former head coach Lou Holtz, who passed away March 4 at age 89.
The university will hold a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Fans can watch the service online through Notre Dame’s official YouTube channel.
Holtz coached the Fighting Irish for 11 seasons from 1986-1996. His 132 games rank second among Notre Dame head coaches, while his 100 wins place third in program history.
His greatest achievement came in 1988 when he led Notre Dame to a 13-1 record and the national championship. It remains the program’s most recent title.

• Time: 1:00 p.m. ET
• Location: Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, Indiana
The service will be followed by a funeral procession from the Basilica to the cemetery.
Notre Dame held a public viewing Sunday evening from 7:00-10:00 p.m. at the Basilica.

Expected Attendance
Notre Dame officials said seating in the Basilica will be limited for the memorial service. The university arranged overflow viewing in Washington Hall and the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.

Before Notre Dame, Holtz coached at William & Mary, North Carolina State, Arkansas, Minnesota and South Carolina. He also spent one season with the New York Jets in 1976.
His career spanned six decades in college football. Holtz was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
