NFL Films Unable to Secure “Hard Knocks” Offseason Team
NFL Films has struggled to find a team willing to participate in its “Hard Knocks: Offseason” series, with recent talks between the production company and North Carolina football program falling through.
“NFL Films had discussions with Coach Belichick and UNC about appearing on ‘Hard Knocks’ this offseason but couldn’t reach an agreement,” an NFL Media spokesperson told CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones.
The discussions would have made North Carolina the first college program featured in “Hard Knocks” history, following Bill Belichick in his first offseason as the Tar Heels’ head coach.
Belichick worked with NFL Films during parts of his year away from coaching in 2024, creating a natural connection between the parties.
The production team’s difficulty finding willing participants follows last year’s experience with the New York Giants, who became the first subject of “Hard Knocks: Offseason” in 2023.
New York’s participation backfired when their decision to let running back Saquon Barkley sign with the Philadelphia Eagles was documented on the show. Fans mocked the Giants throughout the 2024 season as Barkley excelled with their division rival.
No NFL front office has agreed to allow cameras into their offseason operations this year, prompting NFL Films to pursue the college alternative that has now fallen through.
The series typically provides inside access to team decision-making during free agency and the draft.
