Johnny Manziel announced he’s stepping into the boxing ring after a decade away from football. The former Heisman Trophy winner will fight social media influencer Bob Menery on May 23 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
The 33-year-old Manziel hasn’t played professional football since his brief NFL stint ended. But he’s stayed in the public eye and isn’t backing down from this new challenge.
Brand Risk Promotions will promote the fight. The company is run by controversial streamer Adin Ross, who’s been pushing celebrity boxing matches through his promotion company.
UFC’s Dana White Steps In
The fight moved from Miami to Las Vegas after UFC president Dana White agreed to host the event. White’s involvement adds credibility to what started as a social media beef between the two personalities.
Both fighters have been promoting the matchup across their social platforms. Ross has been at the center of the promotional campaign for what Brand Risk Promotions is calling Event 14.
This isn’t an official UFC fight. But it’s gotten White’s attention enough to secure the UFC Apex venue.
Menery Built Fame Through Viral Videos
Bob Menery is a 38-year-old influencer who became famous for parody sports commentary videos. The Massachusetts native used his natural broadcaster voice to create satirical content that ranges from hilarious to profane.
His TikTok and social media videos led to bigger opportunities. Menery co-founded the “Full Send Podcast” and got involved in NASCAR while building millions of followers.
Menery also co-owns an arena football team in Fan Controlled Football. Manziel actually played for that league in 2021 and 2022, meaning the two have crossed paths before.
Size Advantage Goes to Manziel
Manziel measured 6-0, 210 pounds during his NFL career. His current weight isn’t known after being away from football for a decade.
Menery’s exact measurements aren’t public. But Tennis.com reported in 2020 that he’s 5-9. IMDb lists him at 5-7.
Either way, Manziel should have a significant height and reach advantage when they meet in Las Vegas.
Brand Risk Promotions has hosted several celebrity fights recently. Former NFL running back Le’Veon Bell fought in one of their events in late 2024.
The Manziel-Menery fight represents another crossover between sports celebrities and social media influencers in the boxing world.
