Kentucky announced the commitment of four-star quarterback Matt Ponatoski, who chose the Wildcats over Alabama, Oregon and Arkansas.

Ponatoski plays for Archbishop Moeller in Cincinnati, Ohio. The program’s produced multiple college prospects over the years.

The quarterback threw for 57 touchdowns in 2024, according to MaxPreps.

Ponatoski’s also ranked as Ohio’s top baseball recruit by Prep Baseball Report. That creates an interesting situation for Kentucky’s coaching staff.

Most programs don’t allow athletes to play both football and baseball at the college level. The sports overlap during spring practice when football teams install new systems.

Kentucky hasn’t announced whether they’ll allow Ponatoski to pursue both sports. The decision likely depends on depth charts and program needs in both areas.

The commitment gives Kentucky a significant recruiting win over SEC and Big Ten competition.

Ponatoski’s the second quarterback commitment in Kentucky’s 2025 recruiting class. The Wildcats signed three-star quarterback Camden Orth earlier in the cycle.

Archbishop Moeller finished 10-3 in 2024 and reached the Division I state semifinals in Ohio. The school’s known for developing college-level talent on both sides of the ball.

Kentucky’s coaching staff identified Ponatoski as a priority target early in the recruiting process. The offer came after camps and unofficial visits throughout the spring.
