The Cleveland Browns announced their quarterback depth chart for the season opener, with Joe Flacco starting and Dillon Gabriel serving as his backup.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski designated Shedeur Sanders as the third-string emergency quarterback. The decision comes after the team released Tyler ‘Snoop’ Huntley and traded Kenny Pickett to Las Vegas.

Flacco will start Week 1 against AFC North rival Cincinnati. The 40-year-old veteran takes over a position that’s seen constant changes in recent years.

Sanders, the fifth-round rookie, won’t see action unless injuries occur ahead of him. Despite his popularity from Colorado, he’ll watch from the sidelines for now.

Preseason Performance Shaped Decision

Gabriel threw for 272 yards and one touchdown across two preseason games. His two turnovers against Philadelphia, including a pick-six, raised questions about his consistency.

Sanders started strong with two touchdowns in his debut against Carolina. But his performance against the Los Angeles Rams in the preseason finale hurt his chances of claiming the backup role.

The Browns’ quarterback situation remains fluid. Gabriel earned the backup spot, but Sanders isn’t far behind on the depth chart.

Cleveland’s quarterback depth will be tested throughout the season. The team’s history at the position suggests changes could come quickly if performance dips or injuries occur.
