Oregon landed a commitment from Jett Washington, a five-star safety and nephew of the late Kobe Bryant, according to On3 Sports.
Washington announced his decision Thursday night, choosing the Ducks over Alabama and USC.
“Oregon has what I am looking for. My relationships with the coaches are strong, coach Lanning is a defensive-minded head coach, I love the whole environment and Oregon sets their guys up for life after football. Just the fit at Oregon is right for me.”
Washington ranks No. 27 nationally in the On3 Industry Rankings.
The Bishop Gorman High School product from Nevada will enter his senior season this fall. His mother is Bryant’s older sister.
Washington’s connection to the basketball legend runs deep. The Athletic reported last year that Washington’s father described their relationship simply: "Jett was Kobe’s guy."
The commitment gives Oregon another top-tier defensive back in their 2025 recruiting class.
Head coach Dan Lanning continues building his program with elite talent on the defensive side of the ball. Washington’s combination of athleticism and football IQ should translate well to the Pac-12 level.
Washington chose football over basketball despite his family’s basketball legacy. He’s developed into one of the nation’s top safety prospects through his work at Bishop Gorman.
The Ducks beat out two traditional powerhouse programs for Washington’s signature. Alabama and USC both made strong pushes for the five-star recruit throughout the process.
Oregon’s recruiting momentum continues under Lanning’s leadership as the program positions itself for sustained success in the expanded College Football Playoff era.
