Longhorns Secure Major Upgrade After NCAA Approves Eligibility Waiver image

The Texas Longhorns got some major news this week when the NCAA approved incoming transfer Laurence Seymore’s waiver for a sixth year of eligibility. The decision came down Wednesday and clears the way for the offensive lineman to play in 2026.

Seymore transferred to Texas from Western Kentucky in January but had been waiting on NCAA approval to play immediately.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive coordinator Kyle Flood expect Seymore to step right into the starting left guard spot.

The 6-foot-2, 320-pound lineman brings serious credentials with him. He earned second-team All-America honors at Western Kentucky last season while giving up just one sack all year.

Seymore’s college journey has taken him to multiple stops. He started at Miami in 2021, then moved to Akron before the 2023 season. After two years there, he transferred to Western Kentucky where he had his breakout season.

The waiver approval ends weeks of uncertainty around Seymore’s status.

At his February media session, Sarkisian couldn’t give a definitive answer about when a decision might come. He did mention that the NCAA allowed Seymore to resubmit his waiver “with some new information in a way that [made] his case very compelling.”

Texas needs the help up front as they work to get back to title contention. Seymore’s experience across multiple programs should provide the kind of steady presence the Longhorns are looking for in the trenches.

The offensive line unit is counting on his veteran leadership as they prepare for what what could be a pivotal 2026 season in Austin.
