LSU Athletics announced Monday a new jersey patch partnership with Woodside Energy, marking one of the department’s first major moves into new NIL sponsorships following recent NCAA rule changes.

The Woodside Energy logo will appear on competition apparel across all 21 of LSU’s sports programs. The agreement also includes venue signage and digital advertising through the school’s multimedia rights holder, Playfly Sports, which operates as LSU Sports Properties.

“This partnership with Woodside Energy represents a monumental step forward for LSU Athletics and our student-athletes,” LSU vice president and athletic director Verge Ausberry said in a statement. “LSU continues to set the standard and remains at the forefront of this new era of collegiate athletics.”

The NCAA approved jersey patch sponsorships in January, creating a new revenue stream for athletic departments navigating the evolving landscape of name, image and likeness compensation and revenue sharing.

LSU was one of the first schools to buy into the idea of a jersey sponsor. This is similar to how the NBA operates operates.

Woodside Energy, one of Australia’s largest independent oil and gas producers, expanded its footprint in Louisiana following its 2022 merger with BHP’s petroleum business. The company now operates off the state’s shores.

Woodside president of Louisiana LNG Sarah Bairstow said the company’s investment in LSU aligns with its broader commitment to the region.

The partnership represents LSU’s aggressive approach to maximizing new revenue opportunities in college athletics’ changing financial landscape.
